On Dec. 31, 2022, as the world learned of the death of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., of the Diocese of Trenton released a personal reflection about the pontiff who named him a bishop in 2010 and who had visited The Catholic University of America in Washington during then-Father O’Connell’s tenure as president.
As we continue our diocesan participation in this first year of the “Eucharistic Revival” announced by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops for our country, I thought it appropriate, as Bishop of the Diocese of Trenton, to prayerfully compose some reflections on the Holy Eucharist and share them with the clergy and faithful of the Diocese.

As the only national collection taken for higher education in the United States, the upcoming collection for The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., is vital to scholarships for financially deserving students. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops designates the first or second Sunday in September for its national collection for CUA. This year the collection will be taken up in parishes of the Diocese of Trenton on Sept. 3-4.
